Which
breed of horse originated in Czechoslovakia
Ask anyone the following
question: "Which Breed of horse originated in Czechoslovakia" and
you will receive any of the following answers:
1. eh, don't know... 2. let's
see... which breed of horse originated in Czechoslovakia...mmm,
interesting question 3. None, no breed of horse originated in
Czechoslovakia 4. Przewalski
To be quite honest, the first time
anybody asked me which breed of horse originated in Czechoslovakia,
my initial reaction was: The Przewalski horse.
However, the Przewalski horse didn't
originate in Czechoslovakia, but in Mongolia. The Przewalski horse
is believed to be the closed relative to the prehistoric horse. When
you compare the modern Przewalski horse with ancient engravings and
paintings in caves you will be suprised how much they are
alike.
On the other hand.. these paintings are
predominently in caves in France and the Przewalski horse wasn't
discovered until 1879 in Mongolia... Maybe these horses didn't
originate in Mongolia, but happened to be in Mongolia at the end of
the 19th Century.
The general consensus seems to be that
this breed of horse originated in Mongolia.

An email I received from a client:
FYI...the Kladruber originated in Czechloslovakia (actually
Slovakia). The Kladruber and the Andalusian are what
produced the first Lippazaners! I happened by accident onto
your site and on a whim, saw your blurb/factoid. I am trying
to locate some pure Kladrubers and bring back the breed. Small
world....huh?
